Update COVID-19

Written by Anne-Lin van Gelder

It has already been three days since we have placed a call on our social media to help each other, now with the corona virus, where possible. We are very happy (and overwhelmed) by all the reactions from enthusiastic students who want to help us! We do our utmost to add everyone in the Whatsapp group. There are currently 232 students in this group. Every time we receive a help call, we place it in the group. To our surprise, these requests are always responded to in no time. We are very happy with this!

Due to these many reactions from students, the group is almost completely full and we are no longer actively looking for students who can help us with calls.

We are still actively looking for people from Tilburg who can use our help well. With such a large student base, there is always one student who could help you! Do not hesitate to contact us!

A response we received.

Of course we strictly follow the measures and instructions of the RIVM. We have been in contact with both the GGD and RIVM. For example, we ring the doorbell with people, without making physical contact when delivering the groceries. Take a few steps back after ringing to keep your distance. It is allowed to check whether the person concerned receives the messages, as long as the distance of one and a half meters is observed!
Moreover, we only use healthy students.

So yesterday we certainly did not sit still. For example, Juul Snijder, vice chairman of the STC, helped with other volunteers to distribute food packages to residents in Tilburg. This has not gone unnoticed. STC made several news headlines today! See the links below:

Then there is another point we would like to highlight, which is donating blood. Benthe Frie, secretary STC, donated (again) blood to the blood bank yesterday. Benthe has been doing this for a year and a half and this was her fifth donation. She started doing this because she finds the effort small and the impact is so great. Hereby we want to bring the blood bank to the attention of students. Students are young and (often) healthy. In this way they can contribute to the recovery of patients. Now that the corona virus is prevalent, many donors are afraid or too sick to donate. Sanquin therefore fears for a shortage. It is therefore very important that fit and young people donate blood.
